Measure from the floor to the ceiling and allow about 30 cm for the topper and a little headroom. For a standard 2.4 m ceiling, a tree up to about 2.1 m (7 ft) is a safe choice, and 1.8 m (6 ft) suits most living rooms. Half and corner trees sit flat against a wall to save floor space.

Pre-lit trees have LED lights built into the branches, so there is nothing to string up, and many have several light modes. Optic fibre trees carry light along fibre strands for a colour-changing glow. Solar trees are powered by a solar panel instead of a power point. Check each listing for the light colour, the number of lights and how the tree is powered.

A small solar panel charges a built-in rechargeable battery during the day, and the lights switch on automatically at dusk. Put the panel where it gets several hours of direct sun. On cloudy days the lights may run for a shorter time. Check each listing for the light modes, the panel cable length and what is included.

A built-in fan runs continuously to keep the inflatable full, so it needs to stay plugged into a power point. Secure it with stakes and tethers and place it on flat ground away from sharp objects. Check each listing for the power cable length, what is included and the weather guidance.

Order by Monday 14 December for the best chance of delivery before Christmas. Deliveries to WA, NT and TAS take longer, so please order earlier if you can. Orders placed after the cutoff are still sent as normal, but may arrive after Christmas.
